Nyos Quantum 3 pump equipped with the Nyos Quantum 160 Skimmer
The pump equipped with the Nyos Quantum 160 is the Nyos Quantum 3.0, a pump which we had never used before.
Being a single pump set up we don’t have to worry about the amount of water going into the skimmer and the air/water ratio, which are already set for us. We suggest you keep your sump water level around 20 cm, up to a maximum of 23 cm which was our case.
The functioning scheme is very simple. Water and air are mixed at the base and input directly into the pump body which mixes them and pushes them in the contact cylinder. As always we consider simplicity like a quality rather than a deficiency.
The Clear View system deserves more points, as we said the see through cover of the impeller allows us to see the bubbles coming out of it and we can also assess its functioning and cleanliness. A very important feature that any skimmers should have!
As you can see in the above picture, parallel to the skimmer neck there are two cylinders: one is the silencer with a valve to control the incoming air flow; the other, which gets to the bottom of the skimmer, is the outflow with a micrometric regulation of the water outflow. It is all easy to calibrate with to a very accurate level.
To adjust the skimmer we can operate on the outflow to a first good level of accuracy, we can then refine it with a micrometric screw for a more precise adjustment. The system is well developed and easy to use, simple but efficient, it allows us to do a quick adjustment or a much more accurate one.
Installation
Just like the Vertex Omega 180i before, installation of this skimmer is extremely easy. We cannot really choose anything, so we just remove it from the box and place it in the sump: done and ready to go. The only problem for those of us who have a sump divided between in and out of the skimmer is due to the low level of the outflow.
The low outflow contributes to the skimmer low noise. To adjust a more wet or dry foam, we have to operate on the outflow.
