The performances of the external filter Oase Biomaster Thermo 600
The hydraulic head
The first thing we measured was the hydraulic head, that as you know is the capacity of the filter to push the water upwards. The higher the prevalence, the higher can be the aquarium. Remember that the maximum hydraulic head means that at that height there would be no flow. So says that the Biomaster Thermo 600 has an hydraulic head of 180 cm means that at 180 cm the flow is none.
We connected a pipe to the external exit of the filter and, with pump on, we noted the height of the water pushed by the filter.
Hydraulic head of the Oase Biomaster Thermo 600: 260 cm from the ground, 212 cm
The technical data spoke about 180 cm, but our measurements found 32 cm more, or the 18% more.
The flow rate
It’s difficult to analyze the flow rate of an external filter, so we placed ourselves at 80 cm from the ground, in order to have a reference for the filter we’re going to measure in the future.
At this point measuring the flow rate has been easy thanks to the flow meter DigiSavant DIGIFLOW 6710M. At first we connected the outlet tube to our flow meter. The value is expressed in liter per minute. So it’s sufficient to multiply the result for 60 to obtain liters per hour.
We measured 7,6 liters per minute that equals to:
Flow rate Oase Biomaster Thermo 600 at 80 cm: 456 l/h
The maximum flow rate declared of the filter is 1.250 l/h, a value that can be usually found with the pump alone, so the value we found, at an height of 80 cm is perfectly understandable.
Power consuption
The measurement of the istant consumption has been made possible thanks to the useful device RCE PM600. The result is already given in watt.
The maximum consumption declared of the external filter Oase Biomaster Thermo 600 is 22 watt. We measured 15,67 watt, as you can see from the picture. The 29% less.
Consumption Oase Biomaster Thermo 600: 15,69 watt
Conclusions
It’s the first time we can review an external filter and we’re glad that we had the chance to start with the beautiful Oase Biomaster Thermo 600. It’s complete with every accessory it needs, from the filtering materials to the heater. It’s very easy to get started and maintain. The cost is 256 euro and for its 7,4 liters is in line with for what that’s actually on the market. And all the filtering material is included.
PROS
Full complement
Smart triggering system
Low consumption
High hydraulic head
Extremely silent
Very well built (have you seen the pictures?)
CONS
For once… nothing to declare!
Disclaimer: We really wanted to thank Oase Italia that made us available the Oase Biomaster Thermo 600 for this review.
