Since the last visit two years ago where I took the Eheim Compact Plus 2000 as a new return pump, also this year the Interzoo (in short you will see an extensive article on this website) has brought me a new pump.
The choice fell on italian Sicce Syncra Silent 2.5
According to my program to calculate the correct return pump that you can read here: return pump – Calculation of Flow, which was updated for the occasion, I won us, because otherwise I would have not done:)
Passing from a pump, the compact plus 2000, which declared 2000 l / h, 2.3 meters of static head and consumption 35w to the Sicce Syncra Silent declaring 2400 l / h, 2.4 meters of static head with 40 watt consumption. As we know consumption is declared for consumption at zero static head, in the case of a return pump that will be reduced by a proportionate share of the static head in the game.
In my aquarium the static head to win is around 135 cm, then with the above program I calculate a value of 650 l / h for the Eheim and 848 l / h for the Sicce. A value very much in line with what I want to have in my tank. I must say that the idea has matured after a long conversations at the Sicce stand Saturday during Interzoo. This is mainly because the passion that Sicce kids put in their work.
Another thing to be reckoned with for people like me who has one not so big sump, the dimension feature is very important, the Sicce is much less bulky than the Compact Plus 2000 I had before. Enough to fit comfortably in the niche for her in the sump where the Eheim had to be pushed with a little strength.
In the photo above you can see the pump completely disassembled. Disassembly is very simple and consists of 4 steps total. First you have to remove the protective cover with a simple lateral pressure, then unscrew the water flow control used to vary the flow and is used by turning the cross dial in front of the pump. Finally, it removes the protection of the impeller.

And in the tank?? Well I can not measure the difference in flow with the earlier Eheim, but the level in the tank has risen about half cm, unequivocal sign of higher flow pump. We will see in the future if the pump will remain valid long or it will lose efficiency during his employment.
[…] During the Fair Elos also said not to use more the Eheim pumps, but to use the italian Sicce pumps, due the development of the italian brand, and the results they achieved in terms of efficient and consumption. I’d noticed this too, as you can also check looking to my spreadsheet on choosing the correct return pumps that you find here: return pumps: Calculation of flow and in fact I just changed my old and trusty Eheim Compact Plus 2000 with a new Sicce as you can read here: A new return pump: Sicce Silent Syncra 2.5.
