Maintaining costs
The Rossmont Skimer SX 1000 has a declared consumption of 29 watt.
We have, as usual, measured the consumption:
The consumption is slightly higher than declared, 31,5 watt. This corresponds to a cost of 74 euro, if the cost per watt remains constant to about 0,27 euro per kwh. Differently you can do the calculation, considering that the skimmer consumes about 276 kwh per year, this value has to be multiplied by your kwh costs. We’d like to underline the closeness to declared and real values.
The content of the glass
We tried to measure capacity of the glass. We filled it with water and weighed.
1487 grams, that is almost a liter and a half, the same as the declared value.
Conclusions
We really liked this skimmer Rossmont Skimer SX 1000, as you have already understood. It’s very quiet, it has thin bubbles and a great value of air rate. Well, if we have to say, we did expect an equally great level of treated water. But the skimmer has shown to be stable and efficient. The mechanical adjustment is very easy, and open to addictional features with the Waver. There isn’t a control over the sucked air, but the value is record-breaking for this class of skimmers.
The costs
The skimmer Rossmont Skimer SX 1000 costs 399 euro. A price like this, with this performances, it’s a good deal. But we don’t know if adding the Waver and increasing the cost to 599 euro would be worth it. The synergy is spectacular, vocal commands, cleaning of the neck, are all useful features, but they cost as much as the 50% of the skimmer. So you have to really think about it. But you can totally do this choice in a second moment, after you have set the return pump or the movement pump.
Conclusions
The skimmer is really valid. Great the value of sucked air, great the anti-clogging system of the air, a little less amazing the value of the treated water. Rossmont says that this aquarium is good for aquariums of 300 liters heavily populated by corals, aquariums until 600 liters for less populated tanks and until 1000 liters aquariums with fish. For once we agree with the builder and we just want to add that for a very populated aquarium you can also consider 400 liters. The construction is very good, and we didn’t note any flaw. We think that 399 euro is a very good price for a skimmer like this, in fact we totally think it’s a great deal. We registered 1320 l/h of sucked air only twice.
During the use it demonstered to be regular and efficient. The external pump is very useful for the maintanance operations.
As we have said, it suits a populated aquarium with SPS corals and fish until 400 liters, but obviously whit less populated aquariums, or with only fish or soft corals, you could also reach 1000 liters. We like to underline that what we measured is in line with what declared by the company. Well done Rossmont.
